LIGHTING SURVEY

Carry out a survey of the lighting in your school and calculate how much electricity can be saved by replacing filament bulbs with fluorescent lamps or tubes. You might find places where lights could be switched off all together at least for part of the day. You may find this sheet useful.

Fluorescent lamps (both strip and compact) convert more of the electricity they consume into light than filament types of similar brightness. Strip lights consume about 10 watts per 300mm of length.
