In nuclear reactors, naturally unstable (radio-active) forms of the metal uranium break down, releasing heat. This heat energy is used to make steam that turns the dynamos and generates electricity.

Radio-active materials are dangerous and have to be handled very carefully.

Is there a nuclear power station within easy travelling distance of your school?

If there is, can you arrange a guided tour so that you can see how electricity is generated safely?
